The BD Vacutainer Tube EDTA are supplied in economic packs of 10 or 100 tubes. They are used to obtain whole blood or EDTA plasma samples and are available in a variety of sizes. They can be easily identified by a lavender Hemogard safety closure cap. Each evacuated sterile vacutainer contains an anticoagulant of K2 Potassium salt of EDTA (Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic acid) which is a liquid solution that has been spray coated onto the interior surface of the tube.

EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) salts are used as an anticoagulant for whole blood intended for haematology tests, as EDTA preserves the cellular components of blood particularly well.
