Each evacuated sterile vacutainer contains an anticoagulant of K2 Potassium salt of EDTA (Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic acid) which is a liquid solution that has been spray coated onto the interior surface of the tube.

  • Evacuated sterile blood collection tube for whole blood haematology determination
  • Lavender BD Hemogard safety closure

EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) salts are used as an anticoagulant for whole blood intended for haematology tests, as EDTA preserves the cellular components of blood particularly well. EDTA counteracts clotting by forming complexes with metal ions such as calcium and consequently inhibits the cascade of clotting factors. The anticoagulant effect of EDTA is irreversible
